Summer
Live your outdoor holiday to discover Alta Valtellina.
Summer in Bormio? It’s the best time to discover its nature! Whether you are traveling as a couple, as a family or with friends, getting bored here is truly impossible. You can ski under the summer sky, go mountain biking or whiz along the legendary roads of the Giro d'Italia.
Although Alta Valtellina is a popular ski destination, its summer is to be experienced. Bormio, during the summer, becomes the favorite destination for those who love to spend an active holiday.
Why spend your summer in Bormio? Because, in the summer, this corner of the Alps becomes a paradise for sportsmen and families with children. Furthermore skiing is not only practiced in winter here: the Cima Piazzi-San Colombano, Bormio and Santa Caterina areas usually close in early April and then reopen in early June and continue their season until November. After all, the Stelvio Pass is one of the best glaciers in Europe and it offers the unique possibility of skiing during the summer.
Those who do not like skiing, however, can count on a lot of alternatives. During the summer you can go horseback riding, in Bormio as in the neighboring towns. In the city area there are over 600 kilometers of hiking trails, to be covered on foot or by mountain bike, and the trekking routes of the Stelvio National Park. Furthermore, it is possible to reach the top of the mountains by cable car or chair lift, admiring breathtaking landscapes, and then have lunch in the Alpine Refuges and Refreshments.
For cycling enthusiasts, Alta Valtellina is above all full of passes, roads and paths for the various disciplines:
- Mountain Bike
- Road cycling
- Gravity Mountain Bike
- Fat Bike
- Downhill
Cycling on the Bormio passes, it is like immersing yourself in history. Just think how steeped in history Passo Stelvio, Passo Gavia and Passo del Mortirolo are. You can whiz around with your racing bike here, or you can turn towards the mountains and have fun on the MTB, cross country and freeride tracks in the Bormio, Livigno and Santa Caterina areas. Bormio is not only strategic for mountain bike or racing bike routes on the great climbs of the Giro d'Italia such as the Stelvio pass: living it in summer means enjoying all its beauty and the wide range of possibilities for relaxation, gastronomy and entertainment.
Finally, the town also boasts one of the best golf courses in the mountains and, for those who love sport fishing, from April to October you can fish in the rivers and lakes of the surroundings, in specific areas and with permits that can be purchased directly at the tourist office.
